When it comes to food with high protein, the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind would be chicken, beef, and eggs. Little did you know that certain insects are not just high in protein, but also low in calories! Heck, crickets are also known to have twice the protein of beef! In short, insects contain nutritional values that every other food items could offer, namely, high in iron, potassium and fibre.

Ento is a local Malaysian business that farms insects such as crickets and larvae into tasty healthy snacks consisting of many flavours! Not to mention, crickets are highly sustainable compared to livestock farming.

We had the chance of trying their Crickets and Larvae products. Read on to find out how they taste like!

Highlights

  • 234 calories per serving (50g)
  • 7.9g of protein per serving (50g)
  • Made with cricket powder

Verdict: These taste crunchy like every other granola bites! Rest assured, you won’t be able to taste any crickets – just the rolled oats, peanuts, raisins and honey. You could eat it just like a regular granola cereal with milk. We preferred this flavour over oaty peanut, probably due to the raisins as it tasted better with them.
